She has a recurring role on the soap opera since 1993.
Veteran cast member Lynne McGranger of Home and Away has reflected on her early days on the programme and admitted that she was “terrified” to step foot on a TV set.
The Australian actress has played Irene Roberts on a regular basis since 1993, an almost 30-year run that makes her the soap’s longest-serving female cast member.
She recently spoke with TV Week and stated, “I felt total abject horror.”
McGranger emphasised that she had to alter her methods because she was still a very inexperienced TV actor at the time, with a little assistance from Judy Nunn, who played Ailsa Stewart.
“I had never done anything like it, so I was afraid. I had some television acting experience from [the 1986–1993 Australian series The Flying Doctors] and other projects, but I didn’t utilise a steadicam “She spoke up.
“I found it strange to remain in one place because I was so used to bouncing around on stage. One of the producers is what I distinctly recollect saying: “Just watch what Judy Nunn does, you get the sense of how it works.””
The actress said it took her “a year or two” to feel at ease after her initial months on set before she gradually developed confidence.
She laughed and added, “You stumble your way through and then suddenly they keep paying you because they think you know what you’re doing.”
And now, here we are.
