The cast of Human Error, a new criminal thriller on Channel Nine, will be led by Wentworth actress Leeanna Walsman and former Home and Away hunk Stephen Peacocke.
A female detective who unearths a criminal scheme that could end her entire life is the focus of the six-part series.
According to TV Blackbox, production on the show, which also stars Matt Day from Wolf Creek, has already started in Melbourne.
The Underbelly franchise’s writer-producer Greg Haddrick is one of the series’ behind-the-scenes contributors.
The series, which is based on actual events, will follow Detective Holly O’Rourke (Walsman), who looks into what initially seems to be a typical murder investigation.
As Holly leads her murder team into a web of intrigue that ultimately endangers her family, things become more difficult.
Rahel Romahn, a rising talent and the 2022 Heath Ledger Award winner, will also appear in the programme as a detective who becomes involved in Holly’s case.
While Matt Day plays Holly’s husband Luke, veteran Australian actor Steve Bisley, best known for his role in Mad Max, co-stars as Holly’s father.
Peacocke portrays Dylan Mackenzie, a colleague detective working Holly’s case, in the meantime.
Other cast members include Jane Allsop from House Husbands, Rob Collins from Mystery Road, Anthony J Sharpe from the popular Stan series Black Snow, and Rob Collins from Mystery Road.
Debra Lawrence (Please Like Me), Ethan Lwin (Joe vs. Carol), Emily Joy (Fisk), and Daniela Farinacci (East West 101) also co-star.
A perfect sequel to Nine’s popular Underbelly series, which has been airing since 2008, may be Human Error.
The franchise received favourable reviews for its contentious two-part drama Underbelly: Vanishing Act on con artist Melissa Caddick earlier this year.
Human Error will be the criminal drama to watch in 2023, according to Andy Ryan, Head of Drama at Channel Nine.
Australian crime drama has always been broadcast on the Nine network, he claimed.
Producer of Underbelly Greg Haddrick, along with Dan and John Edwards, are producing the programme with funding from VicScreen and Screen Australia (Bump).
The series’ creator, Samantha Winston (Les Norton), is also a producer, while Underbelly author John Sylvester serves as a consultant.
With Haddrick and Winston, the series will be written by Gregor Jordan, the director of Ned Kelly (2003).
The local company Roadshow Rough Diamond collaborates with Channel Nine to produce Human Error.
The UK’s ITV Studios will market the programme abroad.
