In upcoming scenes, Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) is pronounced dead following a confrontation with the evil Craig Erskine in his cell (Johnny Mills).
As fans are aware, Erskine earlier this week promised to end Phil. But Phil was determined to survive, so he went to Ravi Gulati for shelter (Aaron Thiara).
However, his plot was unsuccessful because Ravi was placed in solitary, which meant that, on the morning of the attack, he was alone himself in his cell.
When DI Keeble (Alison Newman) offered him the contract, she promised protection, but Phil declined, saying he would never turn into a “grass.”
While this was going on, Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), terrified to learn of Phil’s situation, told him to fight for his life as she was being carried away by security personnel.
When the time came, Phil went back to his cell and prepared to die. He looked at a picture of his mother Peggy (Barbara Windsor) and asked her to “be waiting for him.”
Then Erskine and his other gang members broke into Phil’s cell and brutally attacked him.
Sharon learns from the prison that someone in Phil’s cell has been murdered in this Thursday’s (July 7) episode of the BBC One soap opera, which is now available to watch on iPlayer.
The cell is later seen having a body bag removed from it.
Sharon makes sure Peggy’s launch is a success since she is determined to grant Phil his “last” desire. Sam (Kim Medcalf), however, discovers the letters in her coworker’s luggage and is distraught to learn that her brother is indeed “dead” and that he neglected to write her a letter.
Similar heartbreak befalls Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace).
But Phil is still very much alive, and he astounded everyone by showing up at Peggy’s opening with a big smile on his face!
Wimbledon interfered with EastEnders’ usual broadcast schedule, thus it was decided to give viewers the option of watching episodes of the BBC One soap online before transmission.
Up until mid-August, new episodes of the soap opera will be released on iPlayer every Monday.
Later this week, these programmes will still be broadcast on BBC One. And this is a week in Walford that should not be missed, whether you’re binge-viewing or watching on television.
