The following article includes spoilers for this week’s EastEnders episodes, which have NOT yet broadcast on TV but are now available as a boxset on BBC iPlayer.
Mitch Baker (Roger Griffiths) is about to have a big surprise this week when his estranged brother Avery (Omar Lye-Fook) shows up in Albert Square.
Avery raises quite a sensation when he arrives, driving his shiny automobile through the market while claiming to have a sick cat in the back in desperate need of medical attention.
This, however, is a fabrication. Realizing he’s started off on the wrong foot with everyone, Avery organises a gathering at the bar in the hopes of making apologies with those he’s offended.
Meanwhile, Mitch is reluctant to celebrate his birthday, but Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) drags him over to The Vic for a drink. The duo is taken aback when they meet Avery in the tavern.
Avery tries to make peace with Mitch, who is still fighting to forgive him for failing to come up to support him after Chantelle Atkins’ (Jessica Plummer) death.
Mitch eventually agrees to give Avery another chance, and the siblings work together on a task that Avery assures Mitch is legitimate. However, it soon becomes clear that this is not the case.
Mitch is furious at his brother for getting him embroiled in shady business, but things take a turn for the worst when Avery collapses to the floor.
The Taylor/Bakers are waiting for word on Avery’s health at the hospital, where they believe he has had a heart attack. However, Felix (Matthew Morrison) and Finlay (Ashley Byam) arrive quickly and determine that Avery has terminal cancer.
With Wimbledon interfering with EastEnders’ usual broadcast schedule, the decision was made to allow viewers to see episodes of the BBC One soap online ahead of transmission.
The soap will continue to release new episodes on iPlayer every Monday until mid-August.
These shows will still air later this week on BBC Two. And, whether you’re bingeing or watching on TV, this is a week not to be missed in Walford.
