A former EastEnders actress has reportedly been detained on fraud suspicions.
The unidentified woman is claimed to be well-known in British television and is most recognised for portraying a lead role in the BBC One serial opera.
The actress was reportedly detained by police from the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (Ersou) on Friday following an early-morning raid at a residence in east London.
While in custody, she was transported to the Gravesend police station in Kent where she was interrogated before being released later that day pending additional research.
Although specifics of the suspected fraud conspiracy have not been made public, it is reported that during the raid, documents and electronic equipment were taken from the home.
According to a source who spoke to The Sun, the claims of fraud are “large-scale,” and the early-morning raid would have utterly caught the actress off guard.
Ersou told the newspaper that the arrest had been made and that the investigation was still ongoing.
The police division was established in 2010 with the goal of eradicating major organised crime and the threat of terrorism throughout the eastern region.
Additionally, it has a specific economic crime team that deals with crimes like fraud and money laundering and enforces the most recent Proceeds of Crime Act regulations.
Ersou has been contacted by Metro.co.uk, but officials for EastEnders have declined to comment.
