Georgie Parker, a star of Home and Away, has announced her departure from the programme.
Georgie is taking a seven-week hiatus from the soap opera, according to a report published in Yahoo on Tuesday, and she should stop appearing on screens in August.
The actress will appear in the play Rhinestone Rex and Miss Monica. She first joined the soap opera in 2010 to take Justine Clarke’s place as Ruth “Roo” Stewart.
Georgie claimed it was fortunate that production cut her from scripts so she could pursue other creative endeavours.
She told Yahoo, “I’m fortunate that with or any other TV projects I’ve been associated with, I’ve been very fortunate that I kind of put it out there — if it’s going to be long term, that I need time out for plays.
Channel Seven has always been quite accommodating when I’ve asked for [time off] and allowed to do that. I simply have it included in my contract, she added.
Georgie, who has been on both All Saints and A Country Practice, is one of Australia’s most adored celebrities.
The celebrity welcomed her daughter Holly in 2000 after getting married to Steve Worland in 1999.
The actress admitted to feeling the strain of balancing her career and being a new mother to TV week in April of last year.
After I won the first Gold Logie, I got married and had a baby, she added.
That was an extremely stressful moment since I felt torn between many different things.
“The problem I had was that I had never pursued that type of success, so when I achieved it, I was doing it more because I wanted the programme to succeed,” the author said.
