John Ibrahim is portrayed by Lincoln Younes in the eagerly awaited movie Last King of The Cross.
However, the 30-year-old actor says that he’s only portraying a “fictionalised” version of the notorious nightclub owner and not him personally.
“I’m not playing him; it’s not a biopic.” The former Home and Away star tells The Sydney Morning Herald that a portion of his memoir served as the show’s inspiration.
He describes John as being mysterious, endearing, personable, ambitious, and perfectionist.
And John is a strange, charismatic, intense, internal, and, most likely, volatile character.
The brothers John and Sam Ibrahim, well-known personalities in the Kings Cross nightclub sector, will be the subject of the ten-part television series.
It is based on John Ibrahim’s best-selling autobiography from 2017, Last King of the Cross.
The show focuses on significant occurrences in John’s life, such as escaping a nearly deadly stabbing and numerous attempts on his life.
Before shooting the series, Lincoln revealed to Stellar magazine that he did extensive research on the nightclub owner and even paid a visit to his house.
Regarding the biopic, he insisted, “I’m not doing an impersonation of him.”
He continued, “There’s an essence I wanted to express, the loneliness of being an immigrant, of being successful, of forging a new route.”
John also commended Lincoln’s performance, stating that some sequences were “tough to see” and that Lincoln “very brilliantly” portrayed him.
The $50 million production Last King of the Cross will be streamed exclusively on Paramount+ around the world.
