I’m simply overjoyed that the fans were heard.
Candice Leask, a star of Neighbours, has addressed rumours from fans that she won’t be playing Wendy Rodwell in the upcoming revival.
Following the last episode’s airing in July, the Australian soap was saved by the free streaming service Amazon Freevee, and it was announced last week that it will return to screens in 2019.
When Neighbours was cancelled by Channel 5 in May, Wendy and her family were the last ever family to move onto Ramsay Street. As a result, the numerous storylines planned for them never appeared on television.
Naturally, rumours about the Rodwell family returning for the revival have started to circulate among fans.
Leask acknowledged fans’ requests for the Rodwells to return on Twitter, but she declined to confirm (or refute, for that matter) those rumours.
Haven’t been on Twitter in years, she wrote. Thanks to the incredible Neighbours Twitter community for their messages expressing hope for a Rodwell/Wendy revival.
“I’m just so happy the fans were heard & your favourite show is coming back to you,” the actor said, “even though no one knows who the new cast will be.”
Leask previously told Digital Spy, “I feel really grateful and I know that Lloyd [Will, who played Andrew] and Emerald [Chan, who played Sadie] feel the same way. We are the last family on Ramsay Street. It would have been nice if it had continued.
“When we signed up, we had no idea that we would be the final Neighbors family. It dawned on us when we learned that the show had lost its funding.
“The fact that we were multicultural was what made it so awesome. Although we are all Australians, our diverse backgrounds have contributed to Neighbours’ development over the past 37 years.
