The actor, who portrayed David Tanaka on the Australian serial opera, has joined the cast of Australian-Asian director Joy Hopwood’s romantic comedy The Gift That Gives.

Honda will play Callum Mori, a novelist who gets a spot on a television show thanks to his work. Once there, he notices presenter Kate (Lily Brown-Griffiths), but his attention is firmly focused on bookshop owner Linda, who is Kate’s best friend (HaiHa Le).

Along with Maria Tran, Andy Trieu, and Genevieve Craig, Lex Marinos and Susan Ling, who play Callum’s parents, are also featured in the cast.

Regarding the undertaking, Honda stated (per IF Magazine): “I cannot wait to begin work on The Gift That Gives. I was drawn to it because it’s an intriguing mashup of a romcom and a mystery with a wide range of interesting people. The plot contains some intriguing turns and twists that avoid rom-com clichés.”

He previously discussed Neighbours and its final episode on Channel 5, telling Digital Spy that David’s plotline had allowed him to realise his goals. “I was glad to leave after six years since I believed David had completed the necessary journey. I had already shared all the stories I wanted to with David “said he.

Since then, Amazon Freevee has unexpectedly revived the serial opera, startling several of the cast members who were both astonished and thrilled by the news. When Honda heard about the announcement, he tweeted: “Only so you know, the cast is just now learning about this. Give us some time to think. Nothing is known to us.”
