Plans submitted to overhaul vacant Eastender pub after previous student accommodation proposals withdrawn

According to new plans, a former pub on Wearside might become a bar and restaurant.

Plans to renovate the Eastender on High Street East were submitted earlier this month, along with a request to convert the structure from a public house to a restaurant.

An earlier application to convert the structure into student housing was made and later withdrawn, according to a design and access statement provided to Sunderland City Council.

Although they were explored, additional plans to build residential housing as well as public spaces for a lounge bar and event space were not pursued.
