Spotlight on Home And Away’s Adam Rowland

AD

Actor and musician Adam Rowland grew up in Albury, a country town in New South Wales. He plays Remi Carter on Home and Away and has been on the soap since 2022. Remi is a member of Summer Bay’s resident band Lyrik and Rowland has played guitar since he was 12. He performed in plays at school, but didn’t begin to take acting seriously until he was at university. He has also appeared in Five Bedrooms, Love Me and Neighbours.

When did you first get into acting?

I feel like I caught the acting bug when I was younger, but I didn’t realise what it was. I just enjoyed playing out scenarios with mates and I used to love going to parties and dressing up as characters and acting as those characters. And it wasn’t until I was halfway through a uni degree that I realised I wanted to be in the entertainment space − and I started taking some acting classes − and realised that that’s what that feeling was. So, yeah, I was about 22 at that point.

You’re a part of Lyrik on Home and Away, have you been in any real-life bands?

I had one with two of my mates I grew up with, but we didn’t take it too far. We did a bunch of little gigs around our hometown, just a few little gigs, and then, aside from that, just lots of sort of open-mic stuff growing up, and jamming, mostly.

Music for me has always been quite therapeutic and an enjoyable pastime.

Do you have a favourite style of music you like to play?

Blues and rock ‘n’ roll really, for me.

Who’s your favourite musician?

At the moment, it’s Sam Fender, he’s a UK artist. He’s like the Springsteen of our generation, in my opinion.

What’s something you always have in your fridge?

Always got to have avocado. Avocado is awesome, it goes with everything. Well maybe not everything, that’s a bit of a stretch.

What do you like about your Home and Away character Remi.

I like that Remi is loyal to his close mates. He’s a pretty laid-back guy, not too much affects him, but when it does, he stands to attention and he’s quick to resolve conflict. He’s just a fun guy to be around.

Are you like your character in real-life?

I try to be, yeah, I think there’s a lot of similarities between Remi and Adam.

What’s the best thing about working on Home and Away?

The people I get to work with, the cast and crew we have is second to none. It’s just a really great group of people, it’s like a second family almost.

What would be your dream role? And which actor would you like to work with?

Every time I have a dream role, they go on and cast it or do the remake before I get there. The goalposts keep changing. But, at this point, anything that came along that stoked a passion in me would be a dream role.

In terms of favourite actors, I always love watching Tom Hardy and Paul Mescal, at the moment. I just saw Gladiator II, he’s just a brilliant actor to watch. Yeah man, I would have loved to have played a Gladiator role, maybe if they do a third one?

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

I would say, just randomly buying a ticket to Iceland when I was in the UK and travelling around the country for 10 days with people I’d met on a bus trip. That place itself was the epitome of adventure.

I saw the Northern Lights, I swam in hot springs and glacier lagoons, I crawled into a cave of an old volcano, I did a bit of everything there. Unfortunately, I haven’t been to New Zealand, but I think it’d be similar to the adventurous country that you guys have.
