Actor Matt Evans is familiar with the attention that sudden stardom can bring, both good and negative.

Evans has experienced the attention that those in the spotlight get thanks to his time on The Voice Australia and the previous two years spent portraying Summer Bay’s troubled teen-turned-musician Theo Poulos.

Theo discovers that someone he just assumed was a devoted admirer of his work as the main singer of Lyrik is actually a dangerous stalker, and the 25-year-old is now putting what he learned to good use on film.

Initially on The Voice and later on Home And Away, Evans recalls his earliest fan interactions as simply “This is so bizarre.”

“I had to find my way around this new thing since it felt so unfamiliar. I immediately thought, “You know what, I’ve been here,” when I read the plot. Although while I’ve never had a stalker, I have definitely encountered the fan culture.

Evans said none of his admirers have really crossed any lines, at least not yet, unlike Theo, whose stalker has located his home address and begun tossing him gifts.

He admits that he had to block one user online since they had so many profiles and started inboxing his buddies and other users.

At the time, handling it was difficult for me, but most people are really nice.

Evans admits things might change if his nascent music career succeeds as he wants. He expects that this year would bring him many more singles after releasing his debut one, Over It, in January.

It was always his intention to merge the two, but before releasing any music, he explains, “I wanted to settle into this position and learn how to be an actor first.”

I’m really focused on releasing as much music as I can this year and positioning myself, and I’m having a fantastic time doing it.

He is the first to admit that he now has a fantastic platform to introduce his songs thanks to Home And Away. Together with fellow actor-musicians Adam Rowland, Angelina Thomson, and Stephanie Panozzo, who play his Lyrik bandmates Remi, Kirby, and Eden on the long-running drama, he performs on screen with them. Moreover, the music video for Over It includes cameos from many of his co-stars.

Evans thinks that viewers will be completely shocked to see who the threatening fan is.

He remarks, “I’ve been reading some of the Instagram comments and I feel like everyone’s estimates are completely off.

The actor was a very, very kind person to deal with, which made it a delight to be a part of the entire tale. It was great fun for me.
