Indira Joshi from EastEnders will appear in Hollyoaks next week as part of Nadira Valli’s (Ashling O’Shea) wedding storyline.

Indira, 80, is best known to soap fans as EastEnders’ Mariam Ahmed, a role she played for nearly two years, beginning in January 2018 and ending in November 2019.
Mariam and her husband Arshad were foster parents who appeared in numerous storylines throughout their time on the show, including fostering a child named Daisy.
The former is also remembered for assisting Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) when her husband Mick (Danny Dyer) was shot just as she and Arshad arrived on the Square.
Several weeks before her departure, Mariam was mugged in broad daylight while returning home with groceries.
As a result, she began to feel unsafe and told Arshad that she wanted to leave London.
While their plans were thrown into disarray as a result of her revelation, learning of Adam Bateman’s (Stephen Rahman-Hughes) cheating behavior broke both of their hearts — and it was this that ultimately convinced them to leave.
Indira is also well-known to audiences for her work on The Kumars, in which she appeared in every episode from 2001 to 2006.
She’ll make her Hollyoaks debut next week, when she attends Nadira’s wedding to Shaq Qureshi (Omar Malik).
