When she was cast in the role of Kirby on the Australian soap Home and Away, Angelina Thomson realized a long-held dream, and the actress isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.
One of the newest Summer Bay beauties delighting fans around the world in the Australian soap opera Home and Away is actress Angelina Thomson.
The stunning star made her acting debut as Kirby, one of the band Lyrik’s four newcomers.
She is starring with her on-screen band members, guitarist Remi (Adam Rowland), lead singer Bob (Rob Mallett), and Eden (Stephanie Panozzo).
Angelina is a Cook Island Mori and has openly discussed her desire to portray her culture on screen.
After having a prosperous career in musical theatre, that dream has now come true.
Let’s look at Angelina’s life off camera, from her glamorous lifestyle to landing her dream position.
Musical past
Angelina initially pursued a career as a theatre performer and singer, but she was always eager to pursue a career in the spotlight.
Angelina made her professional debut in the Australian premiere of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical after receiving her Bachelor of Musical Theatre degree.
Angelina was also featured in Opera Australia’s 2019 production of West Side Story on Sydney Harbour as well as the renowned rock musical Rent, both of which were performed at the Sydney Opera House.
She played Megan Jones in the play PUFFS, one of her biggest theater roles to date.
In response to a question about what first made her want to perform, Angelina said to thefamereporter.com: “I think my cultural dancing is what initially sparked it.
I was introduced to performing very young because my mother, who is from the Cook Islands, started teaching me how to Hula as soon as I could stand up.
Soap dream
With a Cook Island Mori mother and an Australian father, Angelina claims that when she was growing up on the Gold Coast, there weren’t many people who looked like her on television.
“My family watched Home And Away every night at 7 o’clock,” she explains, “and the little Gold Coast girl I was back then was like, ‘How do I do that? How can I access Home And Away?
And now, at the age of 26, I’m there, however many years later. It gives me a little pinch-me feeling. I’m not lying.
It wasn’t until the Paratas, Home And Away’s first Mori family, were cast in 2019 that Thomson began to feel hopeful about having her own role on the program.
According to Thomson, “I remember seeing them and they had traditional names and would say grace and sing and speak Mori.”
“Prior to that, I had considered that I might need to temporarily relocate to New Zealand in order to attend auditions for shows like Shortland Street.
But now that I can have that opportunity in Australia, where I grew up, I feel incredibly grateful.
“I shed a tear on my first day on set. I just broke down in tears. I couldn’t believe it was happening, I thought. The dream has come true. I feel incredibly fortunate to be here.
