Next week, when Home and Away makes its UK television debut, it will be a race against time to free the hostages as Heather takes Marilyn to the top. What plans does she have?
Several of the town’s mainstays were in a fairly precarious situation when we departed the warm shores of Summer Bay six weeks ago.
Following a summons from Heather Frazer (Sofia Nolan), the long-lost daughter of Marilyn (Emily Symons), Alf (Ray Meagher), Roo (Georgie Parker), Irene (Lynne McGranger), and Leah (Ada Nicodemou) soon themselves themselves drugged and imprisoned in the dining room of the mansion.
Marilyn was forced to watch everything happen on CCTV monitors in a vacant area of the property after being knocked out by Heather the previous evening. Marilyn had just woken up.
Marilyn felt guilty when she was made to tell her closest friends Heather’s true identity, a secret she had held for the past 27 years, when she was eventually led down to join the others.
Returning to the action, Alf’s dicky ticker has reacted to the medications Heather used to put Marilyn’s pals to sleep, making his situation more urgent while Marilyn’s friends are taken aback by the discovery.
The group begs Heather to let them help Alf as he continues to decline, but Heather is more concerned with making sure Marilyn suffers since she was the one who left her to be raised by a woman who never loved Heather as a mother should.
Leah hasn’t shown up for work, and Justin (James Stewart), who is in the bay, is growing worried about her. In passing, he inquires about any accidents that might be holding up the highways with Cash (Nicholas Cartwright) and Rose (Kirsty Marillier), but they are unaware of any.
Later, when Justin notices that no one who attended the brunch has returned, he goes to the police station to inquire about Heather. Justin smells a rat because Marilyn was looking for her right before the brunch invites were sent out.
When Rose and Cash inquire about Marilyn’s search for Heather, he is compelled to confess that Heather is her daughter. When everything starts to make sense, the police start asking questions.
In response to Heather’s explanation that she wants Marilyn to understand what it’s like to lose everything, Roo tries a different strategy by warning her that Marilyn’s closest friends will never again view her in the same light.
In light of this, she suggests to Heather that now that she had what she wanted, Alf should be taken to the hospital by ambulance. But Heather argues it’s not good enough, and as the impasse persists, we’re left wondering what else might happen.
Back in Yabbie Creek, Rose finds out that the local police at the farm owned by the Frazer family had been there and discovered a woman they think is Heather’s stepmother; her body was in a chest freezer! Suddenly, it becomes clear that Marilyn and the others may be in far more danger than anyone had first thought.
Rose deduces that the group must have all attended Crestview Ladies College when Justin is able to recall some information from the invitation. While they are gone, Justin is left to inform Nikau (Kawakawa Fox-Reo) that his girlfriend is thought to be a killer.
Rose and Cash are left to find the rest of the group in the dining room as Heather pulls Marilyn back upstairs after hearing the sound of incoming police cruisers.
Cash leaves to get Heather and Marilyn as Rose calls an ambulance for Alf.
Marilyn sees Cash in the courtyard and frantically calls out to him from an open window as Heather drags her down an upper hallway.
Marilyn is swiftly silenced by Heather, but it’s too late; Cash immediately starts to pursue her.
In typical dramatic fashion, Heather attempts to flee by climbing higher up into the house (for identical reasons, we won’t query why Marilyn doesn’t just throw Heather off and go away).
Naturally, Heather finds herself trapped on a tiny balcony outside the attic chamber, with a precipitous drop behind them.
Cash tries to calm Heather down while a scared Marilyn stands next to her on the balcony, but she won’t listen—too it’s late for talk. After that, Heather makes a smart attempt to escape by climbing up onto the parapet and taking Marilyn up with her to an open window nearby.
But Heather falls to the roof below when a section of the parapet collapses under her feet!
While Alf is being transported by paramedic Xander (Luke Van Os), Rose checks on Leah and Irene and apologises for not noticing the warning flags with Heather sooner.
As Bree (Juliet Godwin) examines a weary Alf in the hospital, Roo is worried.
When Justin and Leah are at last reunited, Leah tells him everything that went wrong. Justin is relieved. Leah wonders whether there was anything she could have done to prevent Irene from ever doubting Marilyn. Irene feels bad about it.
Everyone expresses concern for Marilyn, whom no one has seen since Heather hauled her out of the dining room, as the couple check in with Roo to see how Alf is doing.
Then, when Heather is being brought in while unresponsive, Marilyn follows closely after.
Marilyn doesn’t care about anything besides Heather. Has Marilyn lost all hope of making amends with her daughter after witnessing her fall from such a height?
