The relationship between Roberta Kerr and William Roache’s characters Ken Barlow and Wendy Crozier in Coronation Street is a little complicated.
We are aware that Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) was hurt when Ken had an illicit relationship with Wendy in the past.
They’ve decided to put the past behind them and rekindle their friendship now that Wendy is back on the soap opera.
The fact that they connected over having lost their respective partners and have enjoyed practicing for Mary’s (Patti Clare) amateur dramatics show has resulted in some lovely scenes between the two.
Upcoming, Mary expresses her love for the “dramatic” aspect of their play and tells Brian (Peter Gunn) that she is considering quitting.
When Ken learns, he intervenes and requests that Nigel work with Wendy on her monologue, leaving Wendy feeling a little let down by the apparent slight.
After spending time with Wendy, Nigel confides in Ken that he would like to approach Wendy on a date of his own. Ken encourages Nigel to do so.
Given that Ken encouraged Nigel to ask Wendy out, Wendy (and we) become perplexed and wonder if he might not have feelings for her after all.
What will Ken say when Wendy finds him and demands answers?
Has that previous flame returned?
Or did Wendy misinterpret the cues?
