The following article includes spoilers for this week’s episodes of EastEnders, which have not yet been shown on television but are now available to watch as a boxset on BBC iPlayer.

This week’s Peggy’s grand opening sees a horrific gun showdown as two men enter the club brandishing weapons.

Shirley Carter (Linda Henry), who shows up at the wine bar to ruin its launch night in an effort to exact revenge on Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), is disrupted by the siege.

Shirley destroys the building, much to the dismay of Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) and Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace), but after that, when two thugs break in, things take a terrifying turn.

Sharon and Kat are left in mortal danger as Shirley seeks refuge in the office. Meanwhile, Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) charges inside the wine bar and blatantly ignores the demands of the assailants.

Until the thug threatens her with a pistol, that is! Sam sits down next to Sharon and Kat before taking the criminals to the office, where Shirley beats one of the men with a baseball bat.

Sam courageously leaps in front of the bullet, sparing Kat’s life as the thug recovers and points the gun directly at her.

After being taken to the hospital to receive treatment for her wounds, Sam is then brought back to Walford, where Kat shows her appreciation by giving her control of the nightclub.

However, this story will continue to take unexpected turns, so suffice it to say that not everything is as it seems.

Wimbledon interfered with EastEnders’ usual broadcast schedule, thus it was decided to give viewers the option of watching episodes of the BBC One soap online before transmission.
