It came as a surprise when Millie Gibson announced that she was leaving Weatherfield because she had been at the center of some intense and dramatic storylines during her time on Coronation Street as Kelly Neelan and had won the audience’s hearts.
According to Millie, she was merely interested in exploring her options as an actress.
She says, “I have no obligations; I don’t have children, a mortgage to pay, or anything of the sort; I’m still grateful to be living at home.” So I decided to just explore what else the world has to offer. That would be very beneficial if it does, wouldn’t it? I simply reasoned that I should “see what happens while I’m still young.”
She wasn’t making this decision lightly because she was having a great time on the soap opera. “Corrie is like a home.” The best way to put it is that it’s a home, she says.
I felt I had to leave because I was so young. I had to just go with it and see what happened because if I didn’t, it would be in the back of my mind forever.
She claims that her parents were reluctant for her to leave. ‘ My parents questioned, “Are you sure? It’s such a safe place, you’re doing great, and your plots are fantastic. I acknowledged this and said, “I know, but I have to trust my gut; I have to trust my instincts.”
“It was one of those situations where I just had to decide for myself, follow through with it, and hope for the best,” she said.
